Overview
The 2010 reworking of the E63 AMG marked the departure of the naturally-aspirated engine, replaced by a 5.5-litre unit whose twin turbos could wind it up to 577bhp. When this was combined with a claimed economy figure of 28.8mpg - on both standard and S models - and maximum levels of pulling power available from as little as 1,750rpm, you could see where this car’s appeal lay. An evo magazine reviewer gushed: “You might expect the engine to be all torque but there’s not a hint of the power fading away as the revs climb”.
The E63 AMG has all-leather trim, while the exterior clues to its power are generally subtle, the four-pipe exhaust being the main giveaway that this is more than a standard E-Class.
